Chapter 2 - Have you seen my cup?

It's finally time! Chapter one is now completed and we're on to chapter two! Chapter one went very well with 14 separate contributions to the project. It is our earnest hope that each chapter will grow and grow as more of you throw in your two cents. So take a moment and contemplate our next chapter.

Our second chapter topic is:

Have you seen my cup?

Consider the topic and then, based on whatever the topic sparks in you, leave a comment with your story/post/quote/joke/thought. Whatever it is that our topic brings to your mind.

Each month this topic will change, so keep coming back each and every month so you can contribute to the next topic.

Your two cents is what this whole blog is about!

I remember as a new Christian the idea that I actually had a cup of my very own was foreign to me. I thought it was a nice way for the Preacher to draw a mental image and get his message across. I wish I remembered when and how I figured out that I was suppose to have a cup. I mean, at least for me, it would have been great to have publicly announced my decision to follow Christ and then have someone take me by the hand, lead me over the cupboard, point to the shelf and say, “That one is yours.”
Praise God. I have never mislaid my cup. I do admit that if I am not careful I can take it for granted. But I promise, if you ask, I can tell you where my cup is.

I remember days of looking at the broken pieces of my cup. It didn't really seem to have anything to do with God. It just had to do with my cup. It was broken, smashed. It would never contain anything.

After years of holding onto Gods hand I never really noticed until it got a little bigger. My cup wasn't fixed, it was melted down and remade. It started off small with a tiny dimple that could hold water, and slowly the clay has been pushed to the sides, my cup deepening and able to hold more and more water.

Now I find myself during prayer times simply asking God for a bigger cup, and to fill it and keep on filling it.

I love my cup, have you SEEN my cup? :)

I am in the process of really examining my cup. Actually, I have been doing this most of my life, but now I am trying to see my cup in a new light. A holy light.

I am discovering many more flaws and defects than I have been able to admit and OWN.

This is a painful time for me, but I am reminded that hardships are the pathway to peace.

This brings to mind something written by Patsy Clairmont - "God Uses Cracked Pots."

She says to imagine a pot (or possibly a cup) with numerous cracks in it. Imagine the pot filled with light and a lit placed on top. What do you see? Where does the light shine through?

That is the same way the Lord's light shines through us. He uses our cracks - He doesn't expect us to be perfect.

have you seen my cup? it is white with some stains on the outside and a little bit cracked, but, it was full of water that i gave to a friend when she was thirsty, and she said that she drank the water and then was able to fill it up for some one else that was thirsty. i do not really need it anymore because i have been given many cups from other friends, but, i was just curious what may have happened to it. i am sure that i will run across it one of these days.

I've known exactly where my cup is for 7 years now. That's when I accepted Jesus as my savior. Although I don't really think of it that way - it's more like He waited until I was ready to hear Him. Apparently, I'm skeptical and hard-headed, because it took a Damascus road type of experience. I intend to share more about that experience in a future chapter.

I understand the water-cup analogy. However, I don't think of it as my cup. I'm more comfortable with 2Cor 4:7 - "But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us."

Maybe that's because I'm also superficial, and like to see my name in scriptures I quote (using the term "quote" loosely, as I have to look it up).
